The most common injury in motor vehicle and other accidents is tearing of muscle, ligament, tendon and disc tissue.  This is far more common than fracture and has a worse prognosis since bones will heal often as good as new but torn tissues will often scar and may loose their retention allowing spinal vertebrae to slip.  Unfortunately conventional studies like CT and MRI seldom reveal ligament and other spinal tears.   A new scanning technique, Videoflouroscopy, can indicate ligament damage.  This is a simple and quick procedure that takes a moving picture of spinal motion or extremity motion.  Shifts in spinal vertebrae alignment are seen which indicates the presence of torn tissue.  This test is new and seldom used.  We use videoflouroscopy and feel that it can be an important tool to fully assess spinal and extremity damage.
